8 Days of May :
2 Retrogrades, 1 Lunar Eclipse, and a Whole Lot More

As always, these are abbreviated explanations of what to expect on the most astrologically significant days in May. I could go on for pages about what each day means individually, but I’ve done my best to keep them brief + digestible. If you have any questions, shoot me an email at itskristinstephens@gmail.com.

5.4 - Mercury moves into Gemini

Mercury is in Gemini from May 4 - July 11.

Mercury, the planet of communication, rules both Gemini and Virgo. When Mercury is in either of those signs, it feels at home. Of all the signs, Gemini is known as the communicator of the zodiac. It is a fast-paced, quick-minded sign. While Mercury is in its rulership sign of Gemini, this is a perfect time for communication, though it’s important to remember that true conversations require deep listening as well as talking.

5.9 - Venus moves into Gemini

Venus is in Gemini from May 9 - June 2.

While Venus, the planet of relationships, is in Gemini, it pushes us all to be social butterflies. To meet new people, to have interesting conversations, to learn something from others. It might cause us to get bored in our relationships, so be mindful of this and do your part to keep things fun + fresh.

5.11 - New Moon in Taurus

As always, I will do a whole post about this, but for now, just know that this is a super powerful date to connect with nature. To really sloooooow down. To nourish yourself with delicious food, good company, music that makes you really FEEL + connect with your body. If you’re into plant medicine, this would be an ideal day to (safely + mindfully + intentionally) journey.

5.14 - Jupiter moves into Pisces

Jupiter will be in Pisces from May 14 - July 28.

Jupiter is the ancient ruler of Pisces, and when it finds itself in its rulership sign, the benefic glass-half-full Jupiter vibes will be strong. Astrologers look at this as a period of hopefulness and lighter + brighter energy, following an extremely heavy year. Jupiter expands whatever energy it’s in, and Pisces reminds us that we are all one - that we are all god. That life is more than the daily grind + dramas that we get caught up in. That if we give ourselves the space to take a step back, to look at the big picture, to tap into our spirituality, then we have the potential to transcend the heaviness that surrounds us and to find deeper meaning in it all.

5.20 - Gemini season begins

Gemini season this year will be from May 20 - June 19.

Like I touched on above, Gemini is the sign of the communicator. It wants to soak up as much information as possible - to constantly learn and feed it’s mind new things to absorb and digest. Gemini season is an amazing time to learn, to read, to write, to listen, to talk. More on this to come in a full post.

5.23 - Saturn goes retrograde in Aquarius

Saturn will be retrograde in Aquarius from May 23 - October 10.

Oof. This is a biggie. Saturn rules structure, discipline, karma, responsibility, time, and authority. Aquarius is the sign of the individual, the humanitarian, the rebel, the revolutionary, the genius, the exile.

When planets go retrograde, their normally outwardly-expressed energy is turned inward. These time periods ask us to go inwards and really reflect on the themes of that specific planet in the sign it is currently in.

This particular retrograde will shine light on the responsibilities we have to ourselves and to humanity. Our relationships with authority. Our relationship with discipline and structure. Our karmic path - how the decisions we make in the short term nearly always have long term consequences as well. Those are big, heavy themes to contemplate (Saturn always bringing the challenge) but if we sit with them rather than run from them, we have the ability to change our life’s course. To tap into Saturn’s endless ability to see things through to completion and to keep going while all others have quit.

Through the challenging moments there are always gifts to be had. Sometimes they don’t look the way we think they should, but Saturn is here to teach us that sometimes we need to strip away what doesn’t serve us in order to make space for what does.

5.26 - Full moon, lunar eclipse in Sagittarius

Our first eclipse of the year! And it is a total lunar eclipse on the energetic Sagittarius full moon. Sag always brings the heat + energy + vibrancy. It begs us to go out and meet life. To throw ourselves into whatever we are doing with reckless abandon. I’ll do a full post on this closer to time, but know that it is going to be a highly charged day.

5.29 - Mercury goes retrograde in Gemini

Mercury will be retrograde in Gemini from May 29 - June 21.

With Mercury retrograde in its rulership sign of Gemini, this already interesting (and potentially disruptive) energy will be heightened. The popular view of Mercury Retrograde is all doom and gloom, but again through the challenging moments there are gifts to be received, as long as we allow ourselves to stay open to them. Traditionally speaking, MR isn’t a great time to travel, sign contracts, give presentations, and basically everything else that falls under the umbrellas of communication + travel + technology.

And while that may be the case, this MR in Gemini also gives us an opportunity to go inward. To look at how we communicate. To recognize where we may be filling our time + brain space with things that don’t really serve us. Where we are keeping busy simply because we are uncomfortable with being “bored”. Can we use this time to get comfortable with being uncomfortable?
